Wednesday, Oct. 21, is a payday for many disability beneficiaries.
Here's how to know if it's yours.
Who gets paid today?
Retirement, survivor, and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) recipients born between the 11th and 20th of any month are paid on Oct. 21.
That applies to people who began collecting benefits after April 1997.
How the Wednesday system works
The SSA ties your payment date to your birthday.
Birthdays from the 1st to the 10th are paid on the second Wednesday, the 11th to the 20th on the third, and the 21st to the 31st on the fourth.
October 2026 at a glance
- Oct. 14: birthdays on the 1st–10th
- Oct. 21: birthdays on the 11th–20th
- Oct. 28: birthdays on the 21st–31st
The SSA's schedule sets these three Wednesdays as the payment dates for October.
Who follows a different calendar?
Not everyone is on the Wednesday schedule.
People who began receiving benefits before May 1997, or who receive both Social Security and SSI, typically get paid on the 3rd of the month.
When the 3rd lands on a weekend or federal holiday, the payment goes out on the preceding business day.
In October, that meant Friday, Oct. 2.
What about SSI?
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) runs on its own track.
SSI recipients were paid on Thursday, Oct. 1.
What if your payment doesn't show up?
Don't panic just yet.
The SSA asks beneficiaries to wait three additional mailing days before contacting the agency.
If it still hasn't arrived, you have two options:
- Call 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778).
- Contact your local Social Security office.

The account also lets you confirm which payment group you belong to.
